Physical Education (PE) Kit and Standards at Longfield Academy

A group of six Longfield Academy students are seen running across a field together in their PE Kit, smiling for the camera as they go.

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that this letter finds you well. As we continue to emphasise the importance of physical fitness and overall well-being, we would like to address the standards for the Physical Education (PE) kit at our school.

As I am sure that you are aware, regular exercise and physical activity plays a vital role in promoting a healthy lifestyle and contributes to the social, physical and emotional development of our students. It is essential that our students come prepared for PE lessons with the appropriate PE kit and equipment. The PE program at Longfield is a vital part of our curriculum, which not only improves levels of physical fitness, but enables students to learn new skills and techniques. PE and school sport provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. It gives students opportunities to compete in both team and individual sports and other activities which helps to build character and embeds values such as fairness and respect.

To fully participate and benefit from these activities, it is important that your child wears the full and correct PE kit. All pupils will be expected to take part in all PE lessons at Longfield Academy. This also means that if pupils do not feel well or have an injury they are expected to have and change into their PE kit and take an active part in the lesson but in a different role, such as officiating, umpiring, assistant coach, performance analyst, and activities that will be suitable for them to undertake which will allow them to continue with their learning. Failure to have your Longfield Academy PE kit will result in a sanction in line with the Academy and PE policy.

Encouraging and maintaining high PE kit standards not only ensures a safe and inclusive environment for all students but also enhances their participation and overall experience in physical education.

To provide clarity and consistency, we have outlined the PE kit standards below:

  • Longfield Academy PE Uniform: Students are required to wear the designated Academy PE uniform, Longfield Academy PE Kit
  • Footwear: Appropriate athletic footwear is crucial for ensuring safety and preventing injuries during physical activities. Students must wear trainers or sports shoes that provide adequate support and grip. School shoes are not allowed to be worn during PE lessons.
  • Socks: Students should wear suitable sports socks that cover the ankles. These socks should be comfortable, breathable, and appropriate for physical activities.
  • Hair and Jewellery: Long hair must be tied back securely during PE lessons to avoid accidents and distractions. Jewellery, including necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, should be removed for safety reasons.
  • During colder months: students are advised to bring extra layers of warm clothing such as a tracksuit or sweatshirt, as outdoor activities may require additional protection from the elements.

We kindly request your cooperation in ensuring that your child meets the PE kit standards mentioned above. By doing so, you contribute to the overall effectiveness and safety of our PE curriculum.

We are looking forward to seeing all of the students looking smart and wearing the academy PE kit for their PE lessons when we return to the academy in September.

We understand that circumstances may arise where a student is unable to meet the prescribed PE kit standards due to unforeseen reasons. In such cases, please contact us to discuss the situation, and we will try to work together to find a suitable solution. However, our PE kit is part of the Academy’s uniform policy and we do expect all students to wear the full correct PE uniform in PE lessons and for school sports activities and competitions.

We appreciate your support and involvement in your child’s education. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the academy’s PE kit or about your son/daughter’s PE lessons please do not hesitate to contact us. Together, we can create a positive and enriching environment for our students where they can maximise their learning potential.

Thanks in advance for your support with this.

Kind Regards,

Luke Anderson
