In today’s increasingly technological world, people of all ages spend more time using technology for learning, work and recreation. At Longfield Academy, we embrace technology in our classroom, and use it as a tool to educate and innovate. We also strive to ensure students are well prepared for life beyond the academy, where technology will undoubtedly play a major role.

Online Safety Curriculum

Our students follow a tailored online safety curriculum as part of their tutor times, which will develop their understanding of how to use technology appropriately and safely. We follow the age-related framework devised by the United Kingdom Council for Internet Safety (UKCIS). The framework consists of eight aspects:

  • Self image and identity
  • Online relationships
  • Online reputation
  • Online bullying
  • Managing online information
  • Health, well-being and lifestyle
  • Privacy and security
  • Copyright and ownership

National Online Safety (NOS)

NOS is an award winning platform that strives to make the internet a safer place for all through education. Here at Longfield Academy, we have subscribed to this platform so that our students, staff and parents/carers are able to access the wealth of resources it provides.

Technology is very fast-changing and we understand that some parents/carers may find it confusing or worrying. At the start of the academic year we write to parents/carers and invite them to create an account with NOS so that they can make full use of the resources available. Parents/carers are invited to contact the school office (info@longfieldacademy.org) for a copy of the registration link. In your email, please tell us the name of your child and the year they are in.
