Dear Parent/Carer

Re: Year 7 Information

I hope that you have had a fantastic summer holiday.

Thank you to all of you who were able to join us in our celebration at the end of the Summer School. It was great to see so many of you supporting us and the students as we took our first steps towards what I know will be a fulfilling five or seven years of excellent education at Longfield Academy. When year 7 students arrive on Friday 1 September, we will go through a series of activities and key expectations to help them settle well into Academy life. However, I would like to share the following information with you separately ahead of other communication Mr Anderson and I will be sharing with all our parents and carers.

Chromebooks

You will already know that as a technologically intelligent school, we issue all our students with a chromebook to aid revision, research, independent learning and resilience. The collection day for chromebooks is Wednesday 6 September 2.25 to 3.45pm, as previously notified. Our expectation is that your child will bring this to school every day for use in all of their lessons. It is therefore important that the device is fully charged each night.

Homework

We have very high expectations for homework. This is because quality home learning accelerates academic progress, builds students’ confidence, independence and resilience. Your child will receive homework from every subject each week and it is our expectation that all our students will complete all their homework to a good standard ahead of the homework deadline. Students are encouraged to contact their teachers for support ahead of homework deadlines if they have any difficulties to avoid receiving sanctions. Additionally, we have a number of homework clubs during the week where students can get extra support for their homework if needed.

Mobile phones, airpods and smart watches

Please note that these are not allowed on the Academy site and will be confiscated if seen or heard. Ordinarily, confiscated devices will be returned to students at the end of the day. However, parents and carers will be invited to school for a meeting and to collect such devices if the behaviour persists.

ParentPay

Unfortunately, we are experiencing some difficulties with ParentPay and issuing logins for your accounts! For the meantime, please either provide your child with a packed lunch or they can pay with card or cash. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and short notice of this technical issue – we are hoping that this will be resolved by Tuesday next week.

I am truly excited about meeting our new students and I look forward to working closely with you and your child(ren).  I am very confident that with your support we can help your children, our students, to ‘Achieve Beyond Expectation.’

Yours faithfully,
Dr F. Donkor | Principal
