Year 10 Assessments in Module 3

A sixth form student working on their laptop in the library

Dear Parents/Carers,

Hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to inform you of the assessments which will be completed during this week and next week in lessons.

We will be assessing them using one GCSE paper to see where they are currently at and what their gaps are to help us identify areas we need to focus on. Students have been informed by their teachers. Their revision should be general and recapping anything they have completed so far in lessons. Please direct them to Sparx or Drfrost for some independent learning in addition to what the teachers might recommend for revision.

During these assessments, if any disruption is caused by any students, they will be removed and assigned an after school detention to complete the paper again. As you can empathise, students need a calm and conducive environment to complete assessments and any disruptions will not be tolerated.

Homework is set via Sparx every week and it is imperative that this is completed on time every week. Evidence shows that students that complete Sparx every week achieve better outcomes in their maths GCSE. Please check every week that your child has completed their maths Sparx homework. As per school policy, they will get a negative log on Bromcom if homework is not completed which you will be able to see on the MyChildAtSchool app.

In addition, I will be inviting students to attend Thursday’s compulsory Sparx club for regular incompletion. You will receive plenty of notice and email from the teacher and a text informing of this.

Finally, it is vital that all Year 10 students come to school with a scientific calculator, every day. Two of their 3 papers are based on calculators and we need them in lessons to practise calculator skills in Maths and science. Please could you check with your son or daughter that they are bringing their calculators to school everyday.

Thank you for your support in advance and hope that together we can ensure they are on the right path to their GCSE next year. Please do not hesitate to contact me further if needed.

Yours sincerely,
