Festive Events at Longfield Academy

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we move towards the festive season, it is with great pleasure that I write to share with you the various events and activities taking place at Longfield Academy.

Community Cupboard Donations: up until Friday 8 December

The Community Cupboard at West Kingsdown is a registered charity to help people who need to access food, groceries and signposting to other services. It acts in a similar way to a food bank, providing meal kits and toiletries, often just for a week or so, sometimes for longer. This year we are again supporting this great cause by donating supplies to help them through their busy time of year. We can accept any ‘cupboard food’ or toiletry items except medication, bleach-based products, alcohol, razors or food which is perishable. Donations can be left with reception, or Mrs Mulholland in the Spectrum Centre.

Christmas Jumper Day in aid of Save The Children: Thursday 7 December

Once again this year, we will be supporting the Save The Children charity by encouraging our students and staff to wear their Christmas Jumper to school on Thursday 7 December. Donations can be made to the charity through an online donation page. Further details about this event will be sent home to you from Mrs Hurt.

Christmas Panto: Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 December

Our exceptionally talented students will be performing in our school pantomime Alice in Wonderland. Tickets are available on ParentPay, and I encourage you and your families to attend this magnificent show and be entertained by our exceptional students through music, dance and performance.

Christmas Dinner: Wednesday 13 December

Our canteen will be serving a Christmas dinner for students and staff on Wednesday 13 December. Students can purchase this for the usual price of a main meal and/or dessert. The menu will be shared with students via their form tutor once our canteen has finalised the arrangements.

Last Day of the Module: Friday 15 December

The last day of this module is Friday 15 December, and there will be an earlier finish time of 1pm. All students will be dismissed and will need to leave the site promptly; there will be no extra-curricular clubs, interventions or activities on this day. School buses will be departing at the earlier finish time.

I would also like to remind parents/carers that as the nights draw in and the weather becomes much colder, please ensure that your child is bringing an appropriate coat to school. You may also wish to consider providing them with reflective bands or keyrings which can be worn to help aid visibility when on the roads.

Yours faithfully,

Dr F Donkor
Principal
