Enrichment Days for Years 7, 8 & 9

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are now only a few weeks away from Longfield’s Enrichment Programme!

Thank you to everyone who has made a £15 contribution towards this programme. Your money has enabled us to deliver three days of exciting activities and trips for the students. If you have not done so already, please use ParentPay to make your contribution as soon as possible.

Please see below the plans for our enrichment programme.

Wednesday 19th July – Culture Day at Longfield Academy

  • This day is dedicated to celebrating the many different cultures we have at Longfield Academy. Instead of usual lessons, students will have the opportunity to take part in sports, arts, quizzes and team challenges from around the world.
  • Students will also have the opportunity to try food from around the world. All food will be labelled with ingredients and students are responsible for managing any allergies and intolerances.
  • Students will be on site following the normal academy day timings, with the day starting at 8.25am and finishing at 2pm.
  • Students are invited to wear their own clothes, in particular ones which express their culture. Please remember that they must still be appropriate for school (no strappy tops, short shorts and suitable footwear) to enable students to move around for any physical activities.

Thursday 20th July – External Trips Day

  • Year 7 will be visiting Tunbridge Wells via coach. Their first stop will be Hollywood Bowling, at which they will be able to play one full game and have additional free time in the arcade. They will then be driven to Dunorlan Park for sports games, walks and free time. There will also be an opportunity for small supervised group visits to the shops. Students can be in their own clothes (no strappy tops, short shorts or flip flops) and will need to wear trainers or shoes suitable for walking. An additional letter for this trip will be sent home. All Year 7 students must complete and return the permission slip on this additional letter, in order to attend the trip.
  • Year 8 will be visiting Joss Bay, Broadstairs, via coach. Students will have time on the idyllic cove of Joss Bay where sports games will be organised. Students can be in their own clothes (no strappy tops, short shorts or flip flops) and will need to wear trainers. An additional letter for this trip will be sent home. All Year 8 students must complete and return the permission slip on this additional letter, in order to attend the trip.
  • Year 9 will be visiting Greenwich via coach. Year 9 will visit the National Maritime Museum, the Cutty Sark, Greenwich Market and have time to play sports games in Greenwich Park. Students can be in their own clothes (no strappy tops, short shorts or flip flops) and will need to wear trainers. An additional letter for this trip will be sent home. All Year 9 students must complete and return the permission slip on this additional letter, in order to attend the trip.

For all trips, students will need to bring food and drink with them as there is a limited number of opportunities whilst outside the academy. The Helix will be selling packaged lunch food before the academy day starts. Packed lunches for those who receive free school meals will be provided.

All students are expected to arrive at the academy by the usual time of 8.25am and will have returned before the end of the academy day at 3.15pm.

If your child does not want to attend an external visit on this day, please tick the box on the attached reply slip. They will instead be expected to attend our onsite activities and provision.

Friday 21st July – Battle of the Colleges

For our final day, we will encourage our students to develop their teamwork and leadership skills in a range of on-site activities including:

  • A primary style sports day
  • Newspaper fashion walk
  • A sponsored walk
  • A creativity challenge

Each activity will give students the opportunity to earn points for their college, with only one college coming out on top in our Battle of the Colleges. As part of the day, each College will host an end of year celebration assembly.

The day will run from 8.25am to 2.00pm and the Helix will be open as normal for students to purchase their lunch. Students are able to wear their own clothes (no strappy tops, short shorts or flip flops) on this day and are encouraged to wear the colours of their college. Again, all clothing must be appropriate for the academy.

We hope this is going to be a really enjoyable few days for all.

If you have any questions or concerns about the programme, please contact your college.

Kind Regards,

Dr F. Donkor
Principal
