Year 11 PPEs (Pre-Public Exams)

Two male Post-16 Longfield Academy students sit together whilst writing on paper with pens.

Dear Parents/Carers,

The next round of Year 11 PPEs (Pre-Public Exams) begin in the week of 27 February. Our students have been revising hard and preparing well for these. We have had assemblies, led by our teaching and learning leads for the academy, on how to revise to support students with general revision strategies. We are holding “walking talking mocks” in English and maths to prepare them with exactly what an exam paper looks like, where they will be guided on how to answer the questions. In order to support our students even further, before each exam we are holding a warm up session on the subject of that exam so they will have a short, sharp revision session to boost confidence and get them in the correct mindset before each exam.

A copy of the exam timetable has been given to all students and will be available on the MyChildAtSchool app shortly. I have also included a table of the exams at the end of this letter. Please ensure you are talking with your child about what exams they have, and during the exam period please talk with your child about what exam is the following day so they bring the correct equipment for the day. Attendance to all of the exams is vital as these exams will show us and our students exactly what areas our students need to improve on; we can therefore adapt our teaching accordingly. This is also crucial preparation in experiencing the full exam environment so that, in the summer, our students know exactly what to expect.

At Longfield Academy, we are keen to ensure all our students are given the support they need to be successful in their studies. Among the support we offer are weekly interventions which take place every day after school in subjects such as English, maths, science and history. In addition to the interventions during the week, we are pleased to offer Saturday school and February half term intervention. Having them after school and indeed on Saturdays, ensures we do not take pupils out of their normal lesson times to do this extra intervention. It is our hope that these sessions will boost your child’s confidence ahead of the PPEs and the GCSE examinations. If your child has been invited to our targeted Saturday school or February half term intervention, you will receive a letter with all of the details.

Thank you for your continued support and if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Yours faithfully,

Mr M Shaw
Vice Principal and Head of Matisse College
