Re: Year 9 GCSE options
A very warm welcome back to another year at Longfield Academy. As you will be aware, year 9 is a very important year for your child. It is the final year of KS3 education, before they begin their GCSEs. I appreciate this might seem very early in the year to be contacting you regarding options, but I wish to ensure you have plenty of notice of the various events and deadlines for this process. In January/February time, we will be publishing a booklet that explains everything you need to know about the option selection process so that parents/carers can be fully involved in this process with their child. I kindly ask that you make a record of the following events and dates:

Student assemblies on option subjects
Students will have assemblies in school where subject teachers will speak to them about what option subjects are available and what they entail.
January / February 2025
Year 9 parent/carer consultation evening
Annual “parents evening” event, which will be held in person and an opportunity for you to book appointments to speak to your child’s teachers.
12 February 2025
4pm – 6.30pm
Year 9 options showcase evening
An evening event to which we will invite parents/carers and students to speak to teaching staff about option subjects available next year.
5 March 2025
4pm – 5pm
Options selection form opens
The date from which the option selection form will open.
12 February 2025
Options selection form closes
The deadline for students to have submitted their option choices.
10 March 2025
