Dear Parents and Carers
On behalf of the entire staff at Longfield Academy, I am writing to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support. Your involvement in your child’s education is invaluable, and we appreciate your ongoing partnership.
School Achievements
We are incredibly proud of the progress Longfield Academy has made this past year. Here are some highlights:
- Ofsted Inspection: In September, Ofsted recognized the excellent work taking place at our academy. They commended our dedicated staff, high aspirations for students, calm and orderly environment, improved attendance, and student achievements.
- Thriving Sixth Form: Our Sixth Form was once again rated Outstanding by Ofsted, the second time in a row. This is a testament to the hard work and commitment of both our students and staff.
- Safeguarding: This remains a legitimate passion and priority at the academy. Our commitment to safeguarding was once again recognised and praised in a recent safeguarding audit by KCC.
- International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP): We are pleased with the progress of our MYP programme. Recent visits from an IB consultant confirmed the “transformative experiences” our students gain through international collaboration projects, interdisciplinary units and the community projects.
- Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The adoption of UDL ensures all students have equal opportunities to learn and demonstrate their understanding, catering to diverse learning styles and needs.
- Positive School Culture: Our core values of Respect, Aspiration, and Care are becoming increasingly embedded in all aspects of academy life.
Expectations and Behaviour
We are committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating learning environment where all students can thrive. This requires a shared commitment to high standards of behaviour. We are proud that our high standards for behaviour and wellbeing are being recognised by stakeholders and within the community. This is something that we will not compromise on and remains an academy priority, as better behaviour benefits everyone – teachers can teach and students can learn.
- Behaviour Policy: We encourage you to familiarise yourselves with our behaviour policy and to support the academy by reinforcing it at home. Consistent expectations between home and school are crucial for creating a positive learning environment.
- Consequences for Poor Behaviour: We will continue to uphold our high standards for behaviour, teaching, and learning. Students who do not meet these expectations will be addressed according to our behaviour policy. We remain very proud of the vast majority of students who consistently meet our expectations and will continue to work towards preserving the calm and purposeful learning environment we have managed to create so that all students can succeed.
Practical Information
- Term Dates: Term dates are available on our website and in our newsletters. Our new term, Module 1, starts as below:
- Monday 2nd September – years 7 and 12 only.
- Tuesday 3rd September – all year groups in school.
It is important that students are ready to return on the correct date, with all of their equipment and in full correct uniform. You can find these policies on our website, where you can also view our 2024-2025 term dates in full.
- Uniform Policy: Please ensure your child adheres to our uniform policy before returning to school. You can find the policy on our website. Students arriving after the holidays with uniform infringements, including fake eyelashes, acrylic nails etc will be removed from circulation until any infringements are rectified.
- Attendance: This is compulsory for all students. Although improving, in this past year, we were unable to meet our target 95+ average attendance. I would like to encourage all parents and carers to support our attendance drive by ensuring that students attend the academy regularly and on time so they can maximise the learning opportunities available to them.
- School Improvements: During the holidays, improvements will be made to the reception area, creating a more welcoming space for visitors and a separate student entrance.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. I wish you and your family a safe and happy summer holiday.
Thank you once again for your support.
Yours faithfully
Dr F. Donkor Principal
