Year 9 GCSE Options

Dear Parents/Carers,

Firstly I wanted to thank you for taking the time to discuss and help your child select the options they would like to study at GCSE. Following a review of our curriculum for next academic year we have decided that all of our students will be continuing the language they currently study as an extra GCSE alongside the options preferences they have submitted. This will mean that our students will study 9 GCSE’s. We have made this decision as we believe this is the best for our students.

As an International Baccalaureate school that firmly believes in preparing students for engaging in an increasingly globalised and rapidly changing world it is important that we continue to do this throughout the next stage of your child’s education by continuing to study the language they have been learning for the past 3 years. By studying a language our students will be studying the Ebacc suite of qualifications as defined by the government. The Ebacc consists of the following subjects: English language and literature, maths, the sciences, geography or history and a language. Completing this suite of qualifications is considered essential to many further education courses as well as opening a lot of doors. Studies have also shown that studying the Ebacc can also increase attainment in these qualifications.

We have also received new information regarding the reformed Construction course and how the new assessment will look. Unfortunately following this new information it has become clear that we will be unable to run this course. Instead we will be offering GCSE Design and Technology which will allow students to study core technical and designing and making principles, including a broad range of design processes, materials techniques and equipment. We are also now able to offer the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Finance. This is a vocational qualification for learners who wish to learn more about financial services, financial products and their application, and finance in business.

As a result of these changes we would like all students to resubmit an options form using the link below. The deadline for completion of the options form is Friday 22nd April.
